ACCOYO

What is an Accoyo?

The name "Accoyo" refers to a Huacaya alpaca that has been bred at Estancia Accoyo Peru. This Farm and it's owner, Don Julio Berreda, are considered to be the creators of what are the most respected alpacas in the world today. Estancia Accoyo is located in Macusani, Peru at 5500 meters above sea level. While there are other alpaca farms on the Alta Plano of Peru, its Don Julio Berreda who has been able to maintain a breeding programme of pure blood lines which has made these alpacas world famous.

don with his accoyosHis "Royal Bloodlines" as he calls them, have not only been preserved but also marketably improved. In his own words: "I have been able to breed well-defined alpaca phenotypes with a total absence of atypical animals. I attribute the success of the Accoyo alpaca as the worlds best to the superior production qualities of my Herd Sires and their lineage". The Accoyo records and breeding techniques began in 1945 and today the Accoyo alpaca shows a doubling in annual fleece production, now shearing 6 to 8kg. During this same period, the herd's average body weight per animal has increased 25%.

These are achievements that the rest of the worlds breeders are yet to succeed in doing, and this is why at most of the worlds top Alpaca Stud Farms outside South America, you will find a Pure Bred Accoyo Alpaca Stud as the base of all bloodlines. e.g. Accoyo Peruvian Augusto (USA) (one of the most expensive alpacas in the world at $224 000 US.) The Accoyo however remains an exclusive breed to this day, as there are little more than 600 pure Accoyo alpaca outside Peru.

The best genetics in the world in New Zealand

Greg and DonIn Easter of 2001 the Valley of Peace team traveled to Peru, South America, and the home of the world famous Don Julio Berreda and his incredible Accoyo Alpacas. We brought back our exclusive Royal Accoyo Collection.

Two full-blooded stud males, Royal Ragnarr and Royal Odin, outstanding in every respect. Accoyo conformation, big bold and upright, these guys stand proud and their fleece is well under 20 micron with tight crimp from head to foot, completely even. The handle of the fleece is amazing, soft but solid, the density is like nothing you've ever felt before - and when the sun shines the lustre blind's you. We also have a herd of females to maintain purity in our breeding as we create the most outstanding herd in the country.

Over the next few years the New Zealand industry will certainly grow in size, but there needs be a marked improvement in quality of animal and fleece type as well. These new Accoyo arrivals, hand picked from Estancia Accoyo Peru and now at Valley of Peace are of world class quality and will improve the alpaca standard in New Zealand ten fold. Seeing these alpacas will prove to you that 100% Pure Accoyo alpacas are truly outstanding.

Maximise your herds potential with 100% pure Accoyo herd-sires.

ragnarr settling inEvery alpacas genetic material is delivered 50% from the Dam and 50% from the Sire. If you use Sires that are less than a 100% pure Accoyo your cria is missing out on gene's that carry the vital show winning traits and maximum fleece quality on which the alpaca industry depends.

For example; If a Sire was fathered by a 100% Pure Accoyo male and mothered by a good quality Peruvian or Chilean, he only carries 50% Accoyo genetics total, and therefore can only pass on half of that. So your cria will be only 25% Accoyo, by using our 100% Accoyo males you get 50% Accoyo genetics every time guaranteed and that's the difference between nice alpacas and simply superior show winning alpacas.

Accoyo provide simply the best genetics available, and that a proven fact the world over.
