THE SURI ELITE COLLECTION
The Suri alpaca is traditionally a slighter and more elegant animal than the Huacaya, covered in unique pencil like locks that hang straight down from the body. Its beautiful fleece has fabulous lustre, handle and feels like silk to the touch. Standing in the sunlight a Suris fleece glistens and shines like no other.
Suri alpaca are rare. They make up only 6% of the world's alpaca population and of that 6% less than 2% are coloured (not white). It's because of its superb fleece and rarity that coloured Suri have become some of the most sought after alpacas in the world.
In 2001 Valley of Peace travelled direct to Peru to invest in the worlds finest coloured Suri at the source. We purchased Stud animals in white, light fawn and dark fawn, lustrous, fine micron, solid colour fleeces that have to be seen to be believed.
With these animals now at home in New Zealand we have begun a strict breeding programme within our existing premium stock that will not only see an increase in numbers but a dramatic improvement in quality. We call these animals our Elite Collection. In addition to these fantastic Suri studs we also bought home a small herd of equally outstanding female Suri, these girls, bred with our new studs will undoubtably create the champions of the future.
